Mentor Role Description
Goal
To support a Mentee in facing a particular issue, concern or proposal by sharing knowledge, expertise and experience. To help a Mentee improve their ability to provide services, programmes or care to people with ALS/MND through mentoring and good stewardship.
Purpose
The Mentor will:
- share knowledge and experience regarding a specific issue, concern, programme or project with the assigned Mentee
- provide support to overcome challenges
- identify additional skills and resources needed
- refer to and engage additional skills and resources from other subject matter experts, as needed
- create links between member organisations and with the Alliance
Contribution
The Mentor will:
- develop and maintain skills in mentoring
- undertake formal training if available
- be available to actively participate in at least one mentoring project per year
- establish collaborative rapport with the Mentee
- regularly report on progress jointly with the Mentee to the Alliance facilitator
- submit a final report with the Mentee
- attend the annual Alliance meeting if possible
Description
The Mentor should:
- be an experienced leader with more than two years’ experience in ALS/MND
- have developed skills as a Mentor
- have undertaken or be willing to undertake Mentor training
- have past experience in mentoring and some experience in international partnerships
- be willing and able to understand the social, socio-economic, health and disability system in the area of the Mentee
- be non-judgemental and receptive
- reflect genuine concern, respect and commitment to the ALS/MND community, ALS/MND organisations and the Alliance

- able to communicate well, with strong interpersonal skills
